Making Space in a Bathroom
Case
Making additional space in a bathroom was our task for this homeowner.
Challenges
- The towel cabinet had the sink piping in the middle. The owner was unsure how to work around the plumbing.
- There was not enough room for all the towels involved.
- Drawers contained items for each family member and the owners were unsure where to find the items they needed in the morning.
- Drawers were narrow and deep, but not deep enough to set a standard hair care bottle up on end.

After |
|
All of the owner’s towels did not fit into the cabinet designated for towels. |
Simply folding the towels in a different way allowed for numerous additional towels and room for more. |
|
Drawers were unmanageable and it was difficult to find anything quickly. |
Zones were established and organizers used to enable quick location of the face and teeth care products needed. |
Getting Down to Work
The towel cabinet was emptied and various folding techniques were tested. Ultimately, a combination of rolled towels (for the larger towels) and tri-folding (for the smaller towels) was used.
We removed everything from where it was stored in the drawers and sorted like items together for the drawer space. Each drawer was assigned a zone. His and hers spaces were designated and then sub-zones of teeth & face care, hair care and electrical equipment (dryers, razors, etc.) were designated. Drawer organizers were used to keep like items together and within easy reach.
Results
- The towel cabinet was able to hold more towels:
4 additional body towels
2 additional bath towels
7 additional hand towels
13 additional wash cloths
3 additional “Turbie” towels - Owners no longer need to search in their drawers for what they need. Everything is in clear view.
