A Kitchen Gets a New Owner & New Functionality
Case
A kitchen required some reworking to allow for more effective use of deep cabinets. The owners wanted to be able to know what they had so that they would not purchase duplicates. They also wanted function that was smooth and inexpensive.

|
It was difficult to find the right food container or matching lid. |
A shelf was installed - more can fit in the cabinet & all of the smaller containers & lids were placed on a lazy-susan to make locating the right container quick & painless. |
|
Very little fit under the kitchen sink & typical organizers could not work because of the piping & garbage disposal locations. Also, the owners had no location for garbage. |
Water-proof drawers were installed to act as both drawer and shelf. A full kitchen-sized garbage can was placed in a pull out cabinet. |
|
The deep cabinets made it hard to identify what was located in the pantry. |
Pull out shelf drawers were installed and all shelves were labeled for easy access to pantry items. |
|
Spices are easily accessed in the pull out-and-down shelf spice organizer. |
Getting Down to Work
- The cabinets and moving boxes were emptied and sorted into like items.
- Organizing heavy gauge wire pull-out shelving was installed in the pantry and the spice cabinet.
- The food storage container cabinet was emptied and a wire shelf and lazy-susan were installed.
- Water-proof drawers were installed under the sink.
- The center drawer was removed in the cabinet next to the sink and measurements were taken to find a garbage can that fit the space.
- The space was re-assembled.
- Labels were placed on each shelf and drawer to remind the owners and their children where to place food when they were putting groceries away.
